‘Black Sea Cruises’ nominated in the most prestigious international chart of the cruise exhibition Seatrade Med Cruise Convention 2012

The destination ‘Black Sea Cruises’, represented by ‘Port of Burgas’ EAD, was nominated for the award of fastest developing passenger destination of the year. The nomination was announced at the 9th international exhibition Seatrade Med Cruise Convention 2012. The event was held from the 27th to 29th of November in the exhibition complex Marseille, France. The exhibition is biannual and it is known as the most important event of the European passenger market.

The project of the Port was presented by the deputy chairwoman of the Board of Directors Karamfilka Apostolova and Stoycho Dimov, head of ‘Marketing, Quality management system and Eurointegration’ Department.

During the exhibition meetings with representatives of the biggest international cruise operators were carried out, among which were ‘Royal Caribbean Sun’ and ‘Celebrity Cruises’. This confirmed the position of the Port as a new cruise destination and in the near future it might provide an opportunity for new business investments and initiatives.

The signing of the Memorandum of creation and promotion of the new destination ‘Black Sea Cruises’ between the ports of Burgas, Odessa, Istanbul, Batumi and Sevastopol and the biggest cruise operator ‘Royal Caribbean Corporation’ led to an increase of cruise traffic in the region (77 visits are expected at Port of Odessa for 2012, which is the most significant increase since 1992). This also has an effect on the investments in constructing the port infrastructure of the ports of Sochi (Russia), Burgas and Batumi (Georgia). The execution of the project ‘Public Access Zone’, synchronized with a good management and promotion of the project among the biggest cruise companies, is expected to lead to bigger investments not only for the port, but also for the city and the region.
